A most accomplished golfer with a record unsurpassed in Northern Amateur golf. Steven first played for England in 1983 and in all had won a total of 22 caps by 1987. He registered 13 wins for his country and played in the company of several fine players, some of whom have since graced the professional ranks, Paul Broadhurst, David Gilford, Russell Claydon, Steven Richardson and Peter McEvoy. Chris Shaugnesy
The future of the Club is in good hands with a number of promising young players on the horizon. Chris Shaugnessy is the latest of our international quartet. Chris, with a handicap of 2, was selected twice in 1993 to represent England Schools. He played in a mixed 12 - man England v Scotland team at Longniddry, won his match 4 and 3 and then was selected for a 4 - man England team in the European Schools Championship at Dunbar against Scotland, Wales and Sweden where he won two of his matches, only losing to the Swedish player who reached the final of the English Boys Matchplay Championship.
At 16 years of age Chris still has a long way to go to achieve his professional ambitions and if he is as succesful as his international predecessors at the Club, he will have done very well indeed.
